High Fidelity: Swayzak Look Back

Starting out on a laying down tracks using a lowly echo pedal, Swayzak, James Taylor and David ‘Brun’ Brown’s first releases came in 1997 and ever since, they’ve always been an integral part to the fabric family. This weekend, however, Swayzak will be performing the very last time here but all is not lost, Brown will be keeping the moniker alive, and will undoubtedly be back here in Farringdon many more times. To mark this occasion we’ve asked them to think back over the years and pick out a selection of tracks that tell the Swayzak story; their influences, their anthems and their memories are recounted for you here in this play list with additional narration from the soon to be separated pair. Stream: Swayzak Look Back Playlist: 1. Robert Hood - Detroit Dark moody Detroit classic repetetive to the max , but I love it ....futurist music - minimal from 1996 - 909 hats driving this baby! 2. G Man - Quo Vadis - This one’s an early Swayzak favourite, still playing to this day! Still feels good. 3. Maurizio - M4.5 - All time classic that inspired us to make house and techno music, depending on how you see our work. A record came out from this guy and we bought it, everything! 4. Manuel Gottsching - E2-E4 - Hippy with drum machines - once we drove from Quebec City to Montreal listening to this on the way there and all the way back. Hypnotic riddims and illiegal substances. 5. Jah Shaka - Live London Town - This selection is not a track as such as it is a vibe. The best feeling I ever felt in a club was here, with Shaka circa 1989 in South London. 6. Kraftwerk - Numbers - I used to play this over and over when I was a kid, they just had the finest production and still can’t be topped for electronics - sounds modern to this day! 7. Joy Division - Transmission - Joy Division were the first band I ever saw and probably were the greatest to see live, what a feeling to see Ian Curtis “dance dance dance to the radio”. Unforgettable. 8. New Order - Everything’s Gone Green - One of the first things I heard with electronic drums, it set the feelings in motion for making electronics though it was years later that I got serious. 9 . The Blue Nile - Tinseltown - One of the biggest inspirations from my home town, they were pop but listen to their first album and the sounds of the synths and the atmosphere of their recordings . Amazing stuff from Glasgow. 10. Simple Minds - Sons and Fascination - Another underrated Glasgow band they went a bit rock but their early stuff was really cool. To Me they’re up there with The Human League.
