New Zealand resident and purveyour of exceptional drum & bass minimalist futurism, Consequence, just announced his new album. ‘Test Dream,’ the follow up to last year’s ‘Live For Never,’ will drop into record stores before the end of the year via dBridge’s Exit imprint; and to mark the LP’s release he’s wheeling out a live tour which kicks off here on the 4th November up in Exit Records’ Room Three.
An integral part of the ‘Autonomic’ sound; the one captured so purposefully on FABRICLIVE 50, (mixed by dBridge and Instra:mental), Consequence preys on emotion, something that a lot of people might feel is lacking from the layered dancefloor drum & bass of today. There’s definitely a poise and an element of drama inherent to his music. Uplifting his tracks with slicing pads he underpins it, reinforcing the foundations of the drum pattern with cavernous low frequencies creating tunes with this sweeping grand type of soundtrack prospects.
Ahead of his forthcoming appearance, we caught up with him briefly to grab a little bit of info on what his live show will involve…
You’ll be performing you first 100% live show here in Room Three at the EXIT showcase on the 4th. What can we expect from the performance?
Yes that’s right. I am going to be showcasing my new album. It’s going to be somewhat of an experiment, so I’m not sure what you can expect. But I guarantee it will be different from anything I have done before.
Can you run us through the equipment you’ll be using?
I will be working with Ableton, using outboard controllers, synths and processing. I don't want to give away too much, come along and you will see.
How does performing live differ from a DJ set for you? (other than it being all your own tunes I mean, is the experience different for you?)
It will be very different for me. Playing live will give me a lot more freedom to express myself and experiment in areas that I couldn't have if I was DJing.
Is it you just performing the tracks live or is it more an interpretation of them?
The best way I could explain would be to say that I will be remixing and rearranging my music live. I don't have enough hands to perform all the parts live, but in the future I plan on working with more people to make this possible
What can you tell us about your forthcoming album?
When I was in the process of recording this album I made the conscious decision to work without any samples, with the plan that I could develop it into a live show. Put simply, it’s me playing some synths and bits and pieces. It’s called 'Test Dream' and will be coming out on Exit Records in December…
